The Tekoa Coffee Story: Missions Through Coffee
It started with a simple job at a coffee shop in 2001, fresh out of Bible College. What I thought was just a way to pay the bills became the foundation for 24 years of ministry through coffee and hospitality.
Over the years, coffee became the unexpected conduit for every ministry opportunity that followed. When our family planted a church in England, my work at a local café created the relationships that became the backbone of our community. In Colorado, managing a café gave me a platform to demonstrate servant leadership and share Jesus through excellence and genuine care. When we moved to Baltimore and started our own coffee company, we learned that putting mission first—even when it didn't make the best business sense—opened doors to show Christ's heart for people.
The pattern has been clear: coffee creates space for authentic relationships. It breaks down walls, invites conversation, and builds community in ways few other things can. Behind every cup we've served, there's been an opportunity to demonstrate the love of Jesus.
Now we're ready for the next chapter. We want to establish a school that teaches these principles to the next generation—showing young people how their work and businesses can be platforms for ministry. We believe missions doesn't just happen overseas or in church buildings. It happens every day, in every interaction, through every act of service and excellence.
At Tekoa Coffee, we source ethically, treat partners with dignity, create spaces for community, and serve each cup with the heart of Christ. This is our story: Sharing Jesus and caring for people, one cup of coffee at a time.
The name "Tekoa" comes from the hometown of the prophet Amos—a simple man called by God to speak truth with boldness. Like Amos, we believe God uses ordinary work to accomplish extraordinary kingdom purposes.
